Death benefits
All Canadian Armed Forces members, regardless if they are single, married or living common-law, whose death is attributable to military service, should be granted a death benefit and receive a dignified burial. The Royal Canadian Legion is committed to ensuring all Veterans receive a dignified burial and their families have access to the care and support they need and deserve.
Primary advocacy position(s) on this issue:
- When a member of the Canadian Armed Forces who is not married dies as a result of service, their death benefit should be awarded to their designated next of kin.
