Derek Moore

Dominion Vice-President

Dominion Vice-President Derek Moore serves as Chair of the Dominion Command Poppy and Remembrance Committee, Vice-Chair of Sports, and a member of several other committees including the Royal Canadian Ex-Services League, Budget, and Going Forward.

He is also the Dominion Executive Council representative for the Legion’s Eastern United States Zone.

Born in England, Derek received his Canadian citizenship, and in 1978 became a member of the Legion as an Associate, and later a Life Member of Branch 134, Mount Forest in Ontario. 

  • Immediate past President of the Legion’s Ontario Command with his 2022–2025 term being the second three-year COVID-extended term. 
  • Previously held numerous positions at the Branch, Zone, and District levels, including Branch president and in various committee roles; Deputy Zone and Zone Commander, and Vice-President then First Vice-President of Ontario Command – also serving two three-year terms in the latter position, owing to a COVID extension. 
  • Many committee roles over time involved youth education, bursaries, track and field, membership, and Cadet liaison among others.
  • Spent significant time actively involved in issues related to homeless Veterans.
  • Honours include a Life Membership in 2009, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, and the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025 along with The Royal Canadian Legion’s highest distinction, the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM).
  • Family has long history of service with his father and uncle having served during the Second World War; with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Canadian Navy respectively. Two grandfathers and a great uncle also served in the First World War.
  • Served on the ABC Tri-District Hospital Committee.
  • Was a founding member of the Mount Forest Heritage Society (ON) and remains actively involved. 
  • He has been happily married to Patricia for 45 years, and likes playing darts, and even the drums. The pair also enjoy time with their two children, and five grandchildren.
