Danny Redden CD

I first joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1971 and have remained a steadfast supporter of the organization and its mission ever since.

My commitment to service began early in life. As the son of a Veteran who served for almost 34 years, I spent much of my youth moving between countries. In fact, no two members of my immediate family were born in the same country, an experience that instilled in me a deep appreciation for diversity, service, and community.

As a young person, I was actively involved in the Cadet movement, beginning as a Naval Cadet in Montreal and later as an Air Cadet in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1967, I was honoured to be selected as a Centennial Cadet and attended Canadian Forces Base Saint-Jean, Quebec. From there, our cadet contingent participated in Centennial celebrations across Canada, proudly representing Canadian youth during this historic year.

I later joined the Canadian Forces Reserve (Air) and served for more than 12 years, further strengthening my commitment to military service and community involvement.

Today, I continue to serve the Royal Canadian Legion in several leadership capacities. I have served as President of my Branch for the past nine years and as President of TVS, a special section within the Royal Canadian Legion, for the past two years. I also serve on the Dominion Executive Council (DEC), where I have been a member for the past two years.

These leadership roles have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the Legion's governance, operations, and the responsibilities involved in advancing its mission.

My commitment to service extends well beyond the Legion. I served as Vice-President of a housing society in the Vancouver area supporting individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, volunteered with a local food bank, served as an executive member of a Vancouver school board, and was Board Chair of the TB Vets Charitable Foundation. In addition, I devoted many years volunteering with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in Newfoundland and Labrador and later, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Professionally, I enjoyed a successful career in broadcasting, working with CBC, CTV, Cannon Films, and the BBC overseas. Following my broadcasting career, I spent several years in the life insurance and investment industry.

I am proud to be married and have three children and five grandchildren. When I am not involved in Legion activities, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and pursuing my passion for painting.

Throughout my life, service to community, support for youth, and dedication to Veterans have remained the guiding principles of both my personal and professional life. I remain committed to contributing my time, experience, and leadership in support of the Royal Canadian Legion and the communities it serves.
