Staff Accountant

The Royal Canadian Legion National Headquarters is seeking an individual to join our team as a Staff Accountant – Financial Services.

Position Overview

As a Staff Accountant you will be involved in accounts payable, the Legion National Foundation, investments portfolio, month & quarter-end, and audits. You will support the Director of Financial Services in a variety of tasks in addition to monthly reconciliation, analyzing GL accounts, and other special projects. Your success within the role is dependent on a strong work ethic, excellent communication, great attention to details, and the ability to problem-solve.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of billing system and record / reconcile all types of payments and vendor management
  • Balance accounts payable sub-ledger to the general ledger
  • Process supplier invoices with appropriate codes and purchase orders
  • Manage and facilitate corporate credit card processing and reconciliation
  • Preparation of the monthly inter-company journals and expense allocation
  • Work closely with internal and external customers by identifying, resolving, and communicating issues on a timely basis
  • Reconcile monthly and quarterly balance sheet accounts in Microsoft Dynamics GP to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, credit cards, inter-company accounts, and expense reports
  • Recording and reconciling assigned investment transactions and assisting director with treasury functions
  • Maintain an orderly accounting online filing system
  • Identify areas for control improvement and develop solutions
  • Conduct financial due diligence and apply accounting procedures while also gathering and analyzing data from various sources
  • Collaborate with department managers and team members to deliver accurate information within all accounting records
  • Assist with the external annual audit
  • Assist in performing a wide variety of special projects

Education and Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience as a general accountant creating journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and a sound knowledge of the full cycle of accounting
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel
  • The knowledge and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or equivalent
  • Excellent English language skills
