With 270,000 members in 1,350 branches across Canada, our numbers are one of our greatest strengths.
There’s a place for you in the Legion — whether you’ve served, are part of a military family, or simply want to support Canada’s Veterans.
As Canada’s largest Veteran and community service organization, our membership includes currently serving and retired members of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP, as well as parents, spouses, children and grandchildren of Veterans. We also welcome Canadians with no military affiliation who care deeply about those who served.
Every member plays a role. Some volunteer in their communities. Others support by keeping their membership active. Together, we help Veterans and their families, promote Remembrance, and strengthen support systems across the country.
There is a Legion membership category for everyone.
Any Canadian citizen or citizen of an Allied nation who is 18 or older is welcome to become a member of the Legion. There are four main categories of membership:
Ordinary membership
Includes still serving and retired military, reservists, RCMP, police officers, Canadian Coast Guard, and others listed in the General By-Laws.
Associate membership
Includes parents, spouses, widows, widowers, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces as well as nephews of a person who is or was eligible for Ordinary membership.
Affiliate voting membership
Includes Canadian citizens or Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives, and are not eligible for ordinary or associate membership
through service or family association.
Affiliate non-voting membership
This includes non-Canadian citizens or non-Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives.
