The Royal Canadian Legion’s Immediate Past Dominion President Dave Flannigan received an award for his dedicated service to Canada’s Veterans at a ceremony in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia today.

OTTAWA, July 4, 2019 – The Royal Canadian Legion’s Immediate Past Dominion President Dave Flannigan received an award for his dedicated service to Canada’s Veterans at a ceremony in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia today.

The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Award is presented to individuals for outstanding service to Veterans, their communities and their country, or to those who represent commendable role models for fellow Veterans.
“I was astounded when I first received the call,” says Flannigan. “I’m passionate about my work with the Legion and my recent term as Dominion President allowed be to serve in an even deeper way. I feel honoured to be recognized for serving Veterans and our communities - a mission that will always be a part of me.”
Recipients of the award are volunteers who have made significant, sustained and unpaid contributions to the Veteran community. Over the years, Flannigan has helped Veterans in a variety of capacities, in local, provincial and national roles.
“This is well deserved,” says Thomas D. Irvine, Legion Dominion President. “I’ve witnessed the changes he has led over the years, with a goal of helping to improve the lives of our Veterans. I salute his service to the Legion, our communities and our country.”
The award was presented by Minister of Veterans Affairs, Lawrence MacAulay. In its description of Flannigan’s service, Veterans Affairs Canada says: “Throughout Mr. Flannigan’s life the care and recognition of Veterans has been central to what he does. His outstanding support of veterans is well known in the veterans community.”
