    The chilly air did not deter nearly 30,000 people who gathered at Canada’s National War Memorial for the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa this year. “Remembrance Day is one of the most important days of the year for all Canadians,” says Legion Dominion President Berkley Lawrence. “Without the sacrifices of those who have come before us, we would not be living the lives of freedom we have today.”

    The Royal Canadian Legion is proud to introduce Mrs. Nancy Payne of Lansdowne, Ontario, as this year’s National Silver Cross Mother. On November 11, Nancy will place a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. “Nancy’s deep loss reflects the pain of many,” says Berkley Lawrence, Dominion President. “Her bravery in sharing her story shines a warm light on her son, who gave his life in the name of this country. We will always remember him.”

    The Royal Canadian Legion presented the First Poppy of the 2025 National Poppy Campaign today, to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada. The Legion’s Dominion President, Berkley Lawrence, pinned her Poppy during the traditional event at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

    Intermittent rain and heat did not deter the hundreds of young competitors who displayed athletic prowess recently at The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Youth Track and Field Championships in Calgary from August 8-10. Records were broken as participants achieved personal bests, honed their athletic skills, and made new connections.
